Triathlon – and its own bike toghether – bike was born between 1970 and 1980, and before its invention, the triathletes used to ride on the typical bike for cyclism. However it didn’t satisfied due to the lack of accessories that allowed to exploit the aerodynamics for increasing the speed.

The most famous innovation appeared at the end of 80s with handlebars fot triathlon that permit to have an aerodynamics position. That technique was given by Greg Lemond, the winner of Tour The France in ’80.

So triathlon bikes were changing: the saddle has been advanced in respect to the pedals, and the framework took on a vertical form, perpendicular in opposite to the ground. The new structure described allows athlets to stretch themselves forward earning these three benefits: aerodynamics, breathing and a powerer pedal.

Another peculiarity was the dimension of the wheel with a diameter of 26 inches respect to the past when it measured 28 inches. That solution is vivid just in Usa today. Till the end of 90s it was easier to distinguish a triathlets from a cyclist beacuse triathlon bikes represented a technological vehicle: we could remember the Softride, with a built-in-unit framework made by carbon and devoid of vertical or slanting tubes.

An innovating rule was introduced in 1995, with the possibility of taking advantage of the contrail. Following it was born the ITU an international union of cyclist that restricted the development of bikes’ technology. Nowadays triathlon’s bike back to past: similar to the cyclist’s vehicle, it shows just one difference: you can shorten the appendage.
