Sun, seaside, supercar and now, finally, a lot of sport. Dubai looks forward and warms up the muscles to achieve the pole position for the coolest event ever: a world competition finalized to bring into the Arab Zone the eldership of the one considered as the sport of the future. There was great expectation aroundd the competition, that took placelast february, under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed (Crown Prince of Dubai) and Dubai Sports Council, it took place the Challange Dubai Triathlon: a sport event which summoned the top ten finishers in the men’s and women’s categories for a whole sum of 300.000 dollars. The name of Organizing Committee’s Chairman is Ahmad Al Kamali and these are his words:
“The success of Challenge Dubai will give a big boost to this mega event, the first of its kind in the region”.
Although the presence of the best triathlets in the world, the win has gone to the outsiders: the kiwi athlete Terenzo Bozzone surprised everybody overcoming the spanish Javier Gomez, the germans Jan Frodeno and Michael Raelert and the australians Luke McKenzie, Tim Reed, Brad Kahlefeldt and Pete Jacobs too. In the same way Daniela Ryf preceeded for the podium Heather Wurtele and Helle Frederiksen. And last but not least, what Race Director Ahmad Al Haj said: “we are setting up a special athletes village at the venue”. Guess you where, readers… The village is located close to the Jumeirah Beach Park on Jumeirah Street (off of Al Athar street): the course is set against iconic landmarks such as the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa and the Burj AlArab. The swim is off Jumeirah Beach, in the waters of the Arabian Gulf opposite the famous World Islands. The bike will head out through the city to the sand dunes of the Nazwa Desert and then the run will head along the white sandy coastline. Last but not least the sponsor who joint the event: Saucony company, specialized in running shoes production.
