The human body contains copper at a level of about 1.4 to 2.1\u00a0mg per kg of body mass.<span style=\"font-size: 12.5px; line-height: 23.6111px;\">\u00a0<\/span>Stated differently, the<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Recommended Dietary Allowance\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Recommended_Dietary_Allowance\">RDA<\/a> for copper in normal healthy adults is quoted as 0.97\u00a0mg\/day and as 3.0\u00a0mg\/day.\u00a0Copper is absorbed in the gut, then transported to the liver bound to <a title=\"Serum albumin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Serum_albumin\">albumin<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-123\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Copper#cite_note-123\">[123]<\/a><\/sup> After processing in the liver, copper is distributed to other tissues in a second phase. Copper transport here involves the protein<a title=\"Ceruloplasmin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ceruloplasmin\">ceruloplasmin<\/a>, which carries the majority of copper in blood.
